Which fees apply to digital downloads
A digital listing pays the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing, plus the regulatory operating fee and VAT on fees if your country has them. There is no postage, so the fee base is just the item price.
Each time a buyer purchases, the listing auto-renews for another $0.20. Popular digital listings therefore pay the listing fee on every sale, not just once every four months.
The fixed-fee problem on cheap downloads
Two parts of the bill do not shrink with your price: the 20-cent listing renewal and the flat processing fee (£0.20 in the UK, $0.25 in the US). On a $2 printable they take more than a quarter of the sale on their own.

Moving from $2 to $8 more than halves the effective fee rate. That is why bundles beat single sheets on Etsy.

Outside the US, a regulatory operating fee and VAT/GST on Etsy fees can add 1–3 percentage points. US sellers pay neither, but sales tax that Etsy collects from the buyer is included in the processing-fee base. Add it in the calculator’s “More options” if you want to be exact.
VAT on digital sales to buyers
This is separate from VAT on Etsy fees. For digital downloads, Etsy acts as the marketplace and collects and pays VAT on sales to buyers in the UK and EU itself. UK sellers do not normally add VAT to digital listing prices for those buyers, but check your own position if you are VAT registered.
Pricing digital products sensibly
Price for the bundle, not the page. Selling a 30-page planner for $8 instead of single pages at $1.50 cuts fees per page and makes refunds less likely. Use the reverse calculator to find the price for your target margin, and include design-tool subscriptions (Canva, fonts, mock-ups) as a per-sale cost under “Item cost”.

Does Etsy charge a listing fee on every digital sale?
Effectively yes: when a digital item sells, the listing auto-renews and you pay another $0.20.
Is there a minimum price for digital items?
Etsy’s minimum listing price is $0.20 (or the equivalent), but at that level fees can take most of the sale. Below about $4 (or £3) the fixed fees take a large share.
Do Offsite Ads apply to digital products?
Yes. Digital listings can be advertised and an attributed sale pays 15% or 12% like any other.
