15% or 12% of the whole order, capped at $100. When you can opt out and how to price for it.
Offsite Ads explained →How Etsy fees are calculated
- Listing fee: $0.20 per listing, and again for every extra quantity sold from a multi-quantity listing. Billed in US dollars, converted to your currency.
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge.
- Payment processing: set by the country of your bank account, e.g. 3% + $0.25 (US), 4% + £0.20 (UK), 4% + €0.30 (EU), charged on the order total including any tax Etsy collects.
- Regulatory operating fee (some countries only, none in the US): UK 0.48%, France 1.14%, Italy 0.80%, Spain 0.88%, Canada 0.50%.
- Offsite Ads: only on sales from Etsy’s external ads: 15% or 12%, max $100 per order.
- VAT / GST on fees: none for US shops. UK sellers pay 20% VAT on Etsy’s fees, and sellers in the EU, Canada and Australia pay their local VAT or GST.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a sale?
For a US shop with no Offsite Ads: the $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 payment processing. On a $30 item with $5.99 shipping that is about $3.87, or roughly 11% of the order. UK shops pay 4% + £0.20 processing, a 0.48% regulatory fee and 20% VAT on fees, which comes to about 15%.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing, the regulatory operating fee and Offsite Ads are all charged on the order total including the shipping you charge the buyer, so cheap item prices with high shipping do not avoid fees.
What is the Etsy fee for digital downloads?
The same as physical items, minus shipping: $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing (plus regulatory fee and VAT where they apply). The fixed parts (20 cents and the processing flat fee) hurt most on very cheap downloads.
Do I pay tax on Etsy fees?
US sellers don’t. Sellers in the UK, EU, Canada and Australia are charged VAT or GST on Etsy’s fees (e.g. 20% in the UK) whether or not they are registered. Registered sellers can usually reclaim it. Untick the box in More options if you do.
How is the break-even price calculated?
We search for the lowest item price at which profit after every Etsy fee, VAT on fees, product, postage and packaging cost reaches zero, using your exact settings. The price for a target margin works the same way.
